Island places and lighthouses
From island town to wide views

Combine a walk through the island town with a break on the promenade. Borkum’s three lighthouses tell different chapters of maritime history. The New Lighthouse offers views over the town, dunes and sea; climbing it depends on current visitor access. Check opening information before making plans.

The Dykhus local history museum is near the Old Lighthouse. It brings the island’s past to life; its exhibits include a sperm-whale skeleton. Make a museum visit part of your plans in its own right, rather than simply a rainy-day fallback. Borkum.de provides current visitor and opening information.

The town centre brings together shops, lighthouses and easy access to the promenade. Ostland is a starting point for dune outings. At Reede, the harbour and island railway welcome arrivals; the national park ship adds a reason to return. When choosing accommodation, consider the routes you will use most: the beach in the morning, town in the evening or nature during the day.
